The World Health Organization (WHO) has published a list of indications for about 100 diseases that lend themselves to acupuncture treatment. These include diseases of the respiratory tract (such as colds), bronchopulmonary and gastrointestinal diseases (such as acute bronchitis or stomach inflammation (gastritis) or diarrhea (diarrhea)), eye diseases (eg cataract), diseases of the oral cavity (Zahnschmerzenund sore throat), and various neurological and orthopedic disorders such as headache, migraine, paralysis after stroke, tennis elbow, rheumatoid arthritis and many more.
The national health insurance in Germany bear the cost for an acupuncture treatment for lumbar and knee pain.
Do not treat all diseases with no clear diagnosis of severe mental disorders, any type of cancer (except for pain relief) and the most infectious diseases.
In early pregnancy, acupuncture can be for example, nausea and vomiting and later used for birth preparation. Each type of stimulation of acupuncture points should be used with caution during pregnancy.
