As early as 2000 BC used fakirs and yogis trance techniques to achieve a state of inner contemplation. In the early modern period the first time used Paracelsus (1494-1541) hypnosis-like techniques for the treatment of neurological conditions. In the 19th Century the first systematic hypnosis in particular by representatives of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud as used. During the First and Second World War, doctors used hypnosis to supportive in the treatment of soldiers so they could process their war experiences easier.
Today, therapists use hypnosis primarily in pain management, for pre-and post-processing operations and as an accompanying measure during psychotherapy.
