The term cancer refers to malignant neoplasms are described. Often one uses the word tumor, which translated means "hardening"means. Therefore, the term tumor in the technical language is used for all hardening - even those who have nothing to do with cancer, such as for hardening, caused by inflammation, effusion, or the like.

Benign (benign) growths composed of cells that resemble normal cells and (metastasize) spread. Malignant (malignant) tumors, however penetrate the surrounding tissue, spread to the body and thus produce secondary tumors (metastases).

The most common benign tumors, moles, fatty tumors (lipomas), Gefäßgeschwülste (hemangiomas) and Muskelzellgeschwülste (fibroids). Benign neoplasms, however, can also be life threatening, eg if they push through their growth on vital organs like the brain or spinal cord or when they rupture and cause severe bleeding.
